Career Guidance Qualifications
- Level 3 Advice and Guidance is an ideal qualification for those supporting career guidance in schools, colleges and in the community. It is perfect for teaching staff performing a support role to Careers Leaders including Progression Mentors, Teaching Assistants, Information Officers and Administrators. For Colleges and Training Providers it is a key qualification for Tutors and Assessors.
- Level 6 Career Guidance and Development is the work-based professional pathway for aspiring Careers Advisers. Successful completion of the full programme (60 credits) allows the achiever to join the UK Register of Career Development Professionals (managed by the Career Development Institute- the CDI). A school can only meet Gatsby Benchmark 8 if the Personal Guidance is delivered by someone with a Level 6 or 7 qualification (and who is also independent and impartial).
If you are a school, sixth form or college looking to train up an internal member of staff to be a Careers Adviser, this is the qualification to consider. It is also relevant for career guidance providers wanting to expand their workforce by taking on a ‘trainee’ or up-skilling existing staff.
As a Careers Leader in a school the Level 6 framework has career leadership modules which can provide you with the training and formal accreditation. It is common for Career Leaders to take the three units most relevant to the role. It is then possible to ‘top-up’ with further units and qualify as a Careers Adviser.
- It is also possible for CareerWave to deliver Level 2 and Level 4 qualifications.

Quality Assurance service
Our quality assurance of career guidance interventions is a service for existing workers who deliver one-to-one career guidance. As a sole trader or a Careers Adviser employed by a school or college, you are less likely to have access to this essential kind of quality assurance. Even in larger organisations the expertise to provide informed feedback and developmental actions might not be in place. No matter how experienced, all Careers Advisers need support to maintain professional standards and currency.
We currently provide this service to individuals and organisations including Local Authority.
